I did read on the moving to Tassie site months ago posts from people that had made "the crossing" suggesting to leave most/all possessions and travel lightly!! In hindsight, I wish I had. We brought over most things...........(including crap from hubby's shed, that might come in handy!! Yeah right!! ) We have since visited the Auction houses here in Launceston, many of the second hand/antique stores and been amazed what is available......Anything you can imagine and catering for all tastes.....like one big lolly shop! Prices are quite reasonable, you just have to look and be patient......There are also so many bric a brac markets......too many to mention. Anyway just a thought, something else to think about on the move. Kellie.

Mmm, that's interesting. I actually love browsing second hand shops (and Gumtree, lol) so I think we would probably do a big 'cull' of a lot of our stuff instead of moving it. ROFL at you bringing all the "crap from hubby's shed". I only said yesterday "you know, when we move, we are so NOT bringing anything from that damn shed"!!!! It's full to burstiing with crap he NEVER uses, and he had to admit he hardly goes in there anyway!

Hi. Have just look online through google and found a few antique shops over but the price of furniture has gone up in price a lot. At least when we move we have quite a bit of antique furniture. So don't need to buy any thing..we bought most of our furniture and other household stuff here in Adelaide. Just was very lucky in finding bargains. But as I said in my other post the cost for us to move is aprox six thousand dollars. A lot of money but that's 2 cars and caravan and the fares on the boat. And paying for our cat. As well hope to be ther mid year. Thankyou.

We bought EVERYTHING with us except for our fridge and a couple of bits of furniture. I have a connection to most things that I own and I like my things so that's why we bought everything. As we renovated we bought new things like new sofas, new kitchen appliances, a new bedroom suite, new desk and cabinets in the study. As our renovations come to an end we are now starting to sell off some of the furniture and bits and pieces that we brought with us from sydney that do not tie in with our house's colour scheme and style. This way the things are much easier to get rid of for me. I like to hold onto things until I know if it's going to work or not. Many of the things that we have bought since moving here are actually secondhand pieces of furniture. I always try and buy secondhand instead of buying new. Sometimes it's nice to have new, sometimes it's nice to have something with a bit of history. Sarah www.movingtotasmania.com.au

Just for the record, most of the stuff loaded on our truck was Sarah's!

Either way, it's paying out anyway isn't it? Our removalist cost us approx 7,000, puls 2 cars, 2 trailers, 3 kids, us, and 2 dogs BUT so far every penny is so worth it !!

Hi bro, I can't exactly help with the removalist, but I think its cheaper to hire a container and pack it yourselves, from what I can gather.

Hi, We are moving from northern nsw to Hobart very soon. (just waiting to hear back on a job) The biggest dilemma we are having is do we move some, all or none of our things? We have 3 kids, and renting our house to rent down there. Also not sure if we will be there 6mths, 12mths or 5 years. Help zoe

Hi zoe, I am also from northern nsw and will be moving down sometime this year, we to were going to rent out our place and rent down there but decided to sell and rent down there with the intent to buy down the track. Our plan is to get rid of things we hardly use and get a shipping container to move everything else. We are hoping to stay awhile, but if think you may only be there a short time or so, you could look for rentals that are furnished and store your belongs up here until you are sure what your position is down there. My dad has a house over in Bicheno and the stayed only there for 2 years before moving back up. They left alot of there furniture and rented it out only to find they missed tassie and moved back this year and didn't have to bring much back at all. So there are homes down there with furniture to get you started. I hope all goes well for you whatever you choose to do. Good luck with the job. Tania
